Sulochana Dissanayake - Founder and Artistic Director

Founder and Artistic Director of Power of Play (PVT) LTD, Sulochana Dissanayake is a theater creator, educator, trainer and puppeteer. Upon completion of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Theatre from Bates College in Maine,USA, Dissanayake was awarded a Watson Fellowship by the Thomas J. Watson Foundation (established by IBM Corporation). Her study of Social Economics together with formal training in acting, directing, playwriting and puppetry taught her the significance of communication through non-traditional means, and set her on the path that culminated in Power of Play. Dissanayake gained international experience using theatre, performance and puppetry to connect with diverse audiences in USA, Europe, Africa and Asia. She employs creative and interactive techniques to convey information, and is passionate about introducing others to the magic of performing arts.

P. K. Upul Priyantha Alwis - Professional Consultant/Performance and Puppeteer

Alwis is a renowned voice artist with credits in stage theater and radio plays. A Graduate of the University of Peradeniya with Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Drama and Theatre with a Postgraduate Diploma of Buddhist and Pali, Alwis is currently employed by the Ministry of Education and is a practitioner of traditional (Ayurvedha) medicine. Alwis continues his passions for drama, singing, creative writing and voicing with PoP.

Thilina Prabhath Adikaram – Professional Consultant/Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Puppeteer and Musician

Adikaram is a veteran of street theatre with extensive stage experience in Sinhala theater, radio dramas, singing and music. A graduate of the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo with a Bachelor's Degree in Performing Arts, Adikaram is employed by the Cultural Department of Sri Lanka and performs multiple roles within PoP.

Dinesh Buddika Kumarasiri – Professional Consultant/Performance, Puppeteer and Technical Assistant

Kumarasiri has a Degree in Drama and Theater from the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo and is employed by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Kumarasiri continues his passion for performance, puppetry and technical management with PoP.

Thiwanka Ranasinghe – Professional Consultant/Performance, Puppeteer and Musician

A freelance dramatist and musician by profession, Ranasinghe studied Arts for his Advanced Level examination at Royal College, Colombo 7. Ranasinghe won multiple accolades in school drama productions and was a member of the school orchestra. Ranasinghe collaborates with PoP to expand his experience in original creations, puppetry and non-verbal/visual theater.

Dr Lionel Bentharage – Professional Consultant/Traditional Dance and Master Builder

Dr. Bentharage is a Professor of Dance and Drama at the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo and is an internationally renowned low-country artist who has performed Sri Lankan low-country dancing rituals around the world. A gifted artisan, Dr. Bentharage excels at creating traditional palm-frond decorations and experiments in mixing traditional and contemporary craft design. Dr. Bentharage builds giant puppets, sets and props for PoP performances and is PoP’s primary traditional performer.

Ruwan Jayasantha – Professional Consultant/Traditional Dance and Drums

Jayasantha carries on the Sathkorale lineage of up country drummers and Bali ritualistic performers and low country drumming at the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo. Jayasantha is currently employed as the traditional drum accompanist at the University and freelances with many leading performing troupes, while representing Sri Lanka in multiple national and international festivals and programs. Jayasantha is the primary traditional drummer of PoP.

Sankha Jayalath - Professional Consultant/Traditional Dance, Drums and Folk Songs

A student of Dance & Drama at the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo, Jayalath continues his family traditions of low country dancing, drumming and music with a special focus on folk singing. Jayalath won 1st place for creative folk singer at KAVITHA 2014 - An inter-university talent show and has represented Sri Lanka in multiple national and international festivals and programs. Jayalth continues his passion for story-telling and performance through PoP initiatives.

Vishvajith Ekanayaka – Professional Consultant/Script Writer

A script writer by profession, Ekanayaka is a diploma holder in writer and Communication and is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Sri Jayawardhanapura. Ekanayaka has credits in TV, radio, short films, documentaries and stage plays and is the primary script writer for PoP.

Chanaka Wijamunige – Professional Consultant/Cinematographer

A cinematographer by profession, Wijemunige is has a diploma holder from the Sri Lanka Television Training Institute and a graduate of the Asian, Busan,South Korea with credits in feature films, short films and documentaries. Wijamunige has collaborated with PoP as the Chief Cinematographer since 2011.

Sumudu Malalagama – Professional Consultant/Assistant Film Director

Malalagama is a freelance film director with a diploma from the Sri Lanka Television Training Institute and a graduate of the American College of Higher Education with a degree in Marketing Management. Malalagama collaborates with PoP as an Assistant Director in all fictional and documentary film projects.

Sithum Samarajeewa – Professional Consultant/Video Editor

Samarajeewa is a freelance video Editor with a Diploma in Television & Film from the Sri Lanka Television Training Institute. Samarajeewa currently teaches Editing and Sound Design at the Digital Film Academy at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute while working as a fulltime editor of documentaries, short films, music videos and commercials. Samarajeewa has collaborated with PoP as Chief Video Editor since 2011.

Chamila Karunarathne – Professional Consultant/Photographer

Karunarathne is the Deputy Pictures Editor at Rivira Media Corporation (Wijeya Newspapers 2005, World Press Photo Workshop 2003 & National Photographic Art Society) and contributes to international picture agencies including Associated Press, Reuters and Corbis. Karunarathne has collaborated with PoP as Chief Photographer since 2012.

Tanya Goonewardane – rofessional Consultant/Legal

Goonewardane is an Attorney-at-Law practitioner in corporate communications and compliance. Goonewardene has collaborated with PoP as our legal advisor since 2011.

Shian Fernando – Professional Consultant/Finance

Founder and CEO of FX Total Solutions (PVT) LTD, Shian Fernando (FCMA(UK) CGMA, ACMA(LK), SAT, FCAA) contributes his expertise to multiple industries in the economy to strategically manage and advise clients to achieve their financial goals. Fernando has collaborated with PoP as our main financial advisor since our inception.
